da winzada777: Watford have had a flying start on their return to the top flight, but its not as simple on FM16.
da marjack bet: The Hornets have got a lot of quality in their squad, but you will still need to add intelligently to the squad if you are to keep Watford in the Premiership.
Whilst Deeney and Ighalo provide you with quality up front, the midfield might be an area that you look to add to, particularly for the tough away games, where a 5 man midfield might be a necessity.
Thankfully, you’re handed a powerful budget from the off, with enough resources to rebuild.
What you start with…
Watford are bank rolled substantially from the start of your save and, even if you opt to avoid relegation, you will have a healthy budget of over £15million.
The wage budget might need a bit of adding to if you are going for the biggest of names, but you’ll still have a sizeable budget.
What’s expected…
Premier League – As is standard for promoted sides, avoiding relegation will keep the board funding you for another season or two, but you might have the guts to try and push your Watford squad for a bit more considering their class.
FA Cup – A run to the fifth round should suffice, but success in the league over rides everything else, because of the money; that’s how football works now, after all!
Capital One Cup – Failure in the Capital One Cup won’t disappoint anyone too much, but a nice run to the quarters or semis will help keep the fans on side in dodgy patches of form.
Three to buy…
Tord Johnsen Salte – Starting the save at Lyon, Salte is one of the key wonderkids on FM16 who you should rush to invest in. He will take several seasons to develop, but Salte has the quality to become one of the best central defenders/defensive midfielders in the Premiership. His mental attributes, particularly his work rate, are ones to watch out for.
Sheyi Ojo – Another star produced from the Liverpool academy? Of course! Ojo is a natural across the midfield, and in more advanced roles, and is likely to become an England regular within a few seasons of your save. Ojo, because of how highly he is rated at Anfield, does not come cheap, but the cost for a player of this talent should be of no object.
Adam Johnson – Buying from a relegation rival might be a challenge, but Johnson is a high performing player on FM16. Naturally an inside forward – bizarrely – Johnson can play comfortably on either flank and he will produce plenty of goals, whilst creating a lot of chances for Watford’s feared attacking duo. Johnson should be available for under £8million and his game finishing of 14 will appeal to those of you who love using an adventurous inside forward.
Three to sell..
Heurelho Gomes – The ex-Spurs keeper might be your number one from the start of your save, but his age and tendency to make mistakes mean it is worth trading him in for a younger model. Gomes’ wages are not ridiculous, but a higher standard of keeper will substantially increase your chances of reaching the top half and avoiding humiliation to the big boys.
Lloyd Doyley – Doyley has been a good servant to Watford, but the veteran is no longer up to the standards of the Hornets’ squad. You may consider keeping the Jamaican full-back, as some experienced cover, but the size of your budget probably makes that unnecessary.
Steven Berghuis – As one of the younger members in the first team squad, Berghuis might be seen as one for the future, but the Dutchman is unlikely to make it to the standards of Deeney and Ighalo, even if your squad doesn’t improve. Keeping Berghuis wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world, but, as with Doyley, the size of the budget means an upgrade might be in order.
Youngsters…
Nathan Ake – Thanks to Chelsea’s woeful record with their young talents, you might be in with a chance of snapping Ake up at the end of the season. The Dutch utility man can play comfortably as a defensive midfielder or at left-back and has shown his talent for Watford already this season. Ake might be costly, but his potential will help take your squad to the next level.
Ogo Obi – Once you make it a few seasons into your save, this youngster will have finishing that is worthy of a place around the first-team squad. Whether he ever makes it at Watford is questionable, but Ogo Obi’s finishing of 14 and impressive physical stats mean he could at least become a fill in option if you are hit by a dire injury crisis.
Tommie Hoban – Hoban becomes a mentally strong centre-back, who can cover on the left hand side of defence, and should be considered a hot prospect for your squad. Hoban, from the start of your save, is an option that can cover if absolutely needed and the Irishman develops into a player with exceptional positioning and reading of the game.
