da pixbet: West Brom’s rapidly emerging star has become one of the most talked about names this January for his impressive start to the 2014/15 campaign. Saido Berahino, one of the Baggies’ only shining lights in what has so far proved to be a tough season, marks a player with good skill and even better potential.
da 888casino: Whilst several of his goals this season have come from the penalty spot, many believe that West Brom’s Burundi-born striker has everything in his locker to become the next Jermain Defoe, or even the next Michael Owen. A move to one of the Premier League’s big-boys would surely test this theory, but as the likes of Liverpool have signed overpriced English talent in the past and suffered as a result, perhaps a degree of caution should be involved with this particular transfer saga.
In light of such sensation surrounding Saido Berahino in this early stage of his career, will he prove too hard an asset for the newly installed Tony Pulis to keep hold of, or will West Brom’s no. 18 keep things that way, and become a long-term favourite at the Hawthorns?
The 21-year-old, who has represented England at international level, is an out-an-out striker who has a deadly eye for goal. Berahino may have been utilized as a winger/attacking midfielder in the past, but if Pulis wants to keep Berahino firing this season, he must respect his position as a striker.
The young talent is quick on the turn, strong with his link-up play, and can finish off chance after chance likes it’s nobody’s business. Although Saido Berahino is still a raw gem in need of further development and structured progress, the future is certainly looking bright for West Brom’s latest star man. His recent form has led Gerry Francis, one of Pulis’ most trusted back-room staff, to reveal the club’s stance over where they want their in-form striker to remain:
‘You’re not going to want to lose your main goalscorer. Certainly we’ll be looking to add to the squad in that department rather than lose somebody.’
There is however one important question that still surrounds Saido Berahino is his quest to reach the top – is he really worth in excess of £20million? Liverpool, with their current issues in front of goal, have reported an interest in landing the West Brom man, whether it be in this transfer window or the next. Berahino would certainly ease the burden on the likes of Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini up-top for Brendan Rodgers’ team, but such a dramatic move would yet signal more of a gamble than a guarantee.
Liverpool need reliability in their striking department this season, and although Berahino has definitely showed promising signs so far, he simply doesn’t offer that guarantee they need. The Reds have spent big like this before, e.g. Andy Carroll for £35million and Stewart Downing for a reported £20 million, with any future move linking them to the England U21 international therefore feeling the same.
Berahino’s young age certainly gives him that bit of flexibility should such a move start to really develop, but as has been the case for so many young England stars that have come before him, if West Brom’s main-man does make the switch to Anfield without producing the results, Saido Berahino could be just another name to add to the list of expensive players that have failed to make the grade at the top.
Although a move to a club as prestigious as Liverpool would be hard to turn down, Berahino would certainly not suffer from remaining at West Brom and fully developing the great potential he currently has at his feet with the Baggies.
