da esoccer bet: Petr Cech has come to the defence of Chelsea coach Andre Villas Boas, and has insisted that the players are culpable for the side’s current dip in form.
Pressure has mounted on the Portuguese coach, as a slump in performances has seen the Stamford Bridge side lose three out of their last four league games, and pick up only one point from the last two Champions League fixtures.
The ex-Porto trainer has admitted that he understands that his position will be under threat should The Blues poor form continue, but Cech feels the players are to blame.
“The manager is not on the pitch, we are on the pitch and we are making mistakes,” Cech told the club’s official website.
“He cannot do anything about individual mistakes while he is standing by the bench. So the players are to blame and we know it and we try to make things happen and change. It is not easy but we keep going.”
Bayer Leverkusen scored a last minute winner on Wednesday night to compound Chelsea’s miseries, and Cech knows that defensive errors need to be stamped out.
“We can’t really wonder how we lost because we didn’t kill the game off and we repeated the same mistakes.
“We have been talking recently about the same mistakes – concentration and little details when we don’t go to clear the ball. I think we need to be much more aggressive in terms of defending and we get punished all the time,” he concluded.
Chelsea host Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and three points are a must to keep their title ambitions intact.
