da dobrowin: Unai Emery’s decision to axe Aaron Ramsey from the starting line-up for the defeat to Chelsea has stunned the Arsenal squad, according to The Mirror.
What’s the word?
da imperador bet: Faced with a tough slog in the Premier League after back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea to begin the new season, Unai Emery is also facing a major fight behind the scenes as he tussles for stability at Arsenal.
The Spaniard made a bold call with his team selection for Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to the Blues at Stamford Bridge, dropping Aaron Ramsey from the starting line-up and replacing the Wales international with Alex Iwobi, who scored the Gunners’ second.
Ramsey, currently locked in contract negotiations with Arsenal after entering the final 12 months of his deal, is said to have been shocked by his axing from the starting line-up and The Mirror says the rest of the squad feels the same.
Emery is said to have not been happy with Ramsey’s performance in the opening weekend’s defeat to City but insisted a decision was tactical, as he wanted the midfielder to work harder as a unit and felt leaving Ramsey out was the best course of action.
Was he right?
Eyebrows were certainly raised when the line-ups for the London derby against Chelsea were announced as many expected Ramsey, well established as a fan favourite and a crucial player in the squad, to retain his spot in the side.
In all honesty, though, he cannot have too many complaints as he did not really shine against Manchester City and Arsenal looked far better in their performance against Chelsea despite also suffering defeat – fighting back from 2-0 down to level the scores at the break.

Ramsey came on for the second half but Arsenal struggled to get back into top gear following the interval when Granit Xhaka was substituted for Lucas Torreira, which gives Emery another big tactical decision to make for this weekend’s hosting of West Ham.
Nevertheless, the Spaniard is already proving that he won’t fall into the same trap as Wenger in terms of keeping faith with players that aren’t performing on the pitch.
