As things stand, Conte is set for his first full season in charge over 22/23 and the next window could prove pivotal as Chelsea’s ex-boss looks to reshapes the Spurs team.
The 52-year-old, according to reliable reports, has already made a decision on club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele with journalist Dan Kilpatrick claiming Conte sees ‘no future’ for the Lyon loanee.
Following a latest Spurs development, it appears the Lilywhites head coach has now made another exit decision – this time surrounding defender Emerson Royal.
The Latest: Conte makes major Royal call…
The Brazilian, signed just last summer by transfer chief Fabio Paratici, has actually featured regularly over the last fortnight – starting Spurs’ last two Premier League games and even getting on the scoresheet in a 5-1 win over Newcastle United.
Despite this, Conte has now made his decision, with Spanish sources claiming Spurs and their manager are ‘not happy’ with Royal’s performances.
The report adds that Tottenham’s right-back ‘is going to be one of the players who leaves’ this summer with Paratici’s 2021 acquisition set for an exit.
Spurs are set to demand €25 million (£21m) – the same amount they paid to Barcelona for Royal’s services – with suitors Atletico Madrid, as per this update, actually willing to pay it.
The Verdict: Right call?
The South American, still only 23-year-old, has drawn comparisons to some of Brazil’s greatest ever defenders – including a certain Daniel Alves.
Royal’s potential is arguably still there and his performance against Newcastle comes as a fine example of just how he could still improve under Conte.
Alas, the former Inter Milan manager is apparently keen to sign a more attacking wing-back for his system, as also backed by a January report in The Athletic.
La Liga expert and former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, speaking to Football Insider after Royal signed for Spurs, claimed Paratici had brought in a ‘perfect’ and ‘relentless’ full-back.
Conte, as per the latest, really doesn’t seem to agree with the former Real Betis star now allegedly closer to leaving north London after just one year.
