da fezbet: According to reports on Italian website TuttoUdinese, West Ham United, Everton and Southampton are among the Premier League clubs interested in bringing Odion Igahlo, who has scored 15 Chinese Super League goals in 2017, back to England next summer.
What’s the word, then?
da mrbet: Well, TuttoUdinese says that despite the fact the 28-year-old only left Watford to join Chinese Super League club Changchun Yatai FC in January, he is already being lined up for a move back to the Premier League after producing some fine goalscoring form for his club and Nigeria at international level.
TuttoUdinese says that West Ham, Everton, Southampton and fellow English top flight side Stoke City are keen to sign the striker at the end of the season.
The report adds that the fact that the centre-forward’s family still live in London and the poor general level of football in China could convince him to return to England.
How has Ighalo done this season?
The former Hornets man has scored 15 goals and provided a further seven assists in 27 Chinese Super League appearances, while he has four goals in 13 caps for his country.
Why would the trio want him?
All three clubs are struggling for goals this season and they have just 32 in 36 Premier League games between them.
Everton are still yet to sign a Romelu Lukaku replacement, while West Ham look to be losing patience with Andy Carroll and could look to sign a new attacker.
Meanwhile, Southampton’s issues in front of goal have continued over from last term and Mauricio Pellegrino looks likely to bring a new striker in either in January or next summer.
While Ighalo struggled for goals in the 2016/17 campaign, he netted 15 in 37 top flight appearances in the 2015/16 season to suggest that he can get goals regularly at this level.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, while all three clubs do need a new striker it remains to be seen whether they will bring Ighalo back to the Premier League considering his age, and the fact that he will be huge wages with the Changchun Yatai.
With the report also saying a move may only happen at the end of the season, that might not be soon enough for the trio if their problems persist through until January.
