da gbg bet: According to reports in the Evening Standard, West Ham United have joined the likes of Everton and Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign £20m-rated Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho this summer.
What’s the word, then?
da spicy bet: Well, with ongoing injury problems for Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho – which at times as left the Irons without a recognised and experienced striker to choose from – Slaven Bilic is desperate to bring in at least one new attacker to the club this summer.
The Hammers have already been linked with moves for former striker Jermain Defoe and Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi, but now they have also added Iheanacho to their wanted list.
What’s happened with the City striker then?
Well, despite making a huge impression in his breakthrough season during the previous campaign – when he scored eight goals in 26 Premier League appearances – the 20-year-old has found first team opportunities hard to come by under Pep Guardiola this term often being overlooked in favour of Gabriel Jesus or Sergio Aguero.
Despite his struggles to break into the team, the Nigeria international has still scored four league goals and seven in all competitions, including two in the group stages of the Champions League.
Would he be a good signing for West Ham?
He certainly would be.
Despite his tender years, Iheanacho has shown more than just flashes of brilliance during his Premier League appearances and as well as his good movement, finishing and ability to find himself in the right place at the right time, he would also add some much needed pace to the squad.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, while the Nigerian looks to be on his way out of the Etihad, West Ham will likely face a lot of competition to bring him to the London Stadium if he is available for £20m, with the likes of Everton and Borussia Dortmund able to offer him European football.
If he wants a move where there would be a little less pressure on his shoulders though, linking up with Slaven Bilic could be the right thing to do.
