da brdice: West Ham have reportedly made their move for Porto goalscoring machine Moussa Marega, but he would be the perfect man to partner Yoshinori Muto at Newcastle.
What’s the story?
da apostaganha: According to reports, West Ham are in talks with Porto over a £22m swoop for Marega.
The Mali international bagged 22 league goals for the Portuguese champions last season, and the Hammers think he could be the last piece of Pellegrini’s puzzle.
Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko have already arrived in East London, and adding Marega to the pair alongside Mark Arnautovic would be quite something.
However, he also might just be the perfect man to replace Aleksandar Mitrovic on Tyneside. Newcastle are expected to completed a deal for Mainz striker Muto, and the Japanese international will need a powerful presence to partner up with.
If Marega is really on the market for around £22m, then now is the time for Mike Ashley to use the incoming Mitrovic money to finally break Newcastle’s transfer record.

The perfect second striker?
Marega was relatively unknown when he moved to Porto in 2016, having scored 12 league goals in 29 appearances with Maritimo. He was then loaned out to Vitoria, where he upped that total slightly by grabbing 13 league goals. Since breaking into the Porto setup he has been simply unstoppable though, blossoming into one of the best “second strikers” in the world.
Standing at 6 ft tall with supreme strength, Marega is an absolute handful for defenders, and he is also surprisingly fast. He played off of Vincent Aboubakar in Porto’s charge to the title last season, grabbing 22 goals while Aboubakar netted 15 of his own.
Muto is a very gifted footballer, but he will struggle in the Premier League if Rafael Benitez chucks him up front on his own, which is why signing Marega is an absolute must. Not only is the 27 year-old a fantastic striker himself, he brings the best out of the players around him.
Marega won 1.2 aerial duels per game last season, while also averaging over three shots, 1.4 dribbles and nearly one key pass per game. He can hold the ball up, has great feet for a big man, and best of all he never hesitates in front of goal.
If Rafa wants to prevent Muto from being a huge flop, signing Marega for £22m should be an absolute no brainer, and with Mitrovic expected to join Fulham the money is there to be spent. Over to you Mike…
