da leao: Newcastle were controversially beaten by Wolves on Sunday evening, and Rafael Benitez needs to bite the bullet and axe one of his favourite players after a woeful display.
Matt Doherty’s stoppage time goal gave Wolves all three points at St. James’ Park on Sunday, and Benitez was fuming at referee Mike Dean.
Dean sent off DeAndre Yedlin for stopping Diogo Jota from breaking through on goal, and Wolves’ centre back Willy Boly was lucky to escape punishment for an elbow on Ayoze Perez.

Who Benitez should really have been fuming at however were his players, particularly out wide, where Matt Ritchie and DeAndre Yedlin failed to provide any real chances for Salomon Rondon.
Rondon has proven in the last few weeks that he will bury chances if they come to him, but Benitez’s switch to a back three with Ritchie and Yedlin as wing backs was a total disaster.
Ritchie is loved by the fans on Tyneside and by Benitez himself due to his tireless work rate, but his lack of quality in the final third is a real problem for a team that is not creating enough chances.
He made no key passes and completed zero successful take-ons, all while completing just 72 per cent of his overall passes.
The Scottish international tried his best to whip crosses in to Rondon, but completed just one out of six attempts, while also completing the same percentage of his attempted long balls to the Venezuelan.
There is plenty of talk about a takeover from Mike Ashley, and if the new owners finally back Benitez, it could be really bad news for the misfiring Ritchie when the Spaniard looks to boost his attacking ranks.
So, Newcastle fans, what did you make of Ritchie’s performance vs Wolves? Does he need to be replaced in January? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
