da bet vitoria: Newcastle United’s Amanda Staveley has been slammed by Simon Jordan for her comments about the club’s support following the Carabao Cup final defeat on Sunday.
What did Amanda Staveley say?
da marjack bet: It was a disappointing 90 minutes of football for the Magpies on Sunday at Wembley as they saw their opportunity to lift silverware slip through their fingers.
However, the club’s immense support was on display for all to see over the weekend as tens of thousands of Newcastle fans descended on the capital.
And after the game, Staveley spoke to TalkSport to thank the fans and suggested he was shocked by the huge turnout from the Newcastle faithful:
“We don’t really deserve the support we have I always feel. As owners, we’re very, very humbled by what’s happened today [Sunday],” she said.
But speaking on Monday morning, Jordan has hit back at her comments claiming she will have been well aware of the support a trip to Wembley would have received:
(2:15) “It’s a PR spin. You knew you were buying a football club that if you put it into a League Cup final you will inundate London. So let’s dial down the fake humility and look at the reality of what you’ve got there. I think it’s ridiculous a term and so you didn’t expect it.”
“It’s preposterous rubbish because the one thing they do deserve is that ownership model absolutely deserves those fans being behind them.”
How many fans did Newcastle take to London?
There is certainly some credit in what Jordan is saying as the Newcastle fans have proven themselves to be some of the most passionate in the country.
So having endured such a long wait to make their debut in a cup final at the new Wembley Stadium, the prospect of a weekend in the capital will naturally excite a lot of fans.
However, this does not necessarily mean Staveley’s comments about being shocked by the magnitude of the support is not true.
There is no doubt the tickets would have been snapped up by the fans, but there were reports from the likes of Sky Sports suggesting there could have been up to 100,000 Newcastle fans in the capital.
It is apparent the new owners have been welcomed on Tyneside by the fans and that is hardly surprising given the club currently find themselves battling for a spot in the top four.
Jordan does have a history of sharing his opinion on Newcastle’s owners so this will probably not be welcomed by the fans on Tyneside.
However, it is believed he has a bet with Jim White that Newcastle will not finish inside the top six of the Premier League this season.
So it will be interesting to see who has the last laugh at the end of the season as Newcastle look in a good position to put Jordan out of pocket.
