da dobrowin: Danny Ings endured a rare off-day in Southampton’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
On the chalkboard
da pixbet: The striker has been in electric form this season, scoring 14 goals in the Premier League under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Only Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero have scored more than Ings thus far this term.
But against Spurs, he drew a blank.
Per WhoScored, the 27-year-old had four shots on goal but only one was on target and, while he did manage to lay on the assist for Sofiane Boufal’s equaliser, this was a poor display all-round from the Englishman.
He had 44 touches of the ball in total, but managed a pass completion rate of just 57% and did not complete a dribble or win an aerial duel, despite contesting four.
Without his shooting boots on, Ings struggled.
The reason for the draw
Ings can be directly blamed for the game going to a replay.
Two of his four attempts were categorised by WhoScored as “big chances”; given the form the 5 foot 10 forward has been in this season, he will have expected to score at least one of them.
This was a game in which Southampton dominated proceedings at times – they had over 59% possession and had 10 shots to Spurs’ eight – but Ings’ lack of a cutting edge ultimately cost them.
Who on earth is that?!?! Can you name all of these obscure January signings?
He will be forgiven, of course, because Southampton didn’t lose and he was directly involved in the equaliser, even if he didn’t score it himself.
Nevertheless, this is a display that he will want to forget – he should have been Saints’ saviour once again on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Saints fans have reacted to a huge exit rumour!
